Tonight’s The Night
Tonight’s the night come rain or shine we party ‘til the day breaks
And music flows in spiral waves
Freedom from the daily grind, relax, unwind
Relish the chance to misbehave
And as I watch these burning embers in the fire pit glow
There seems no harm in wasting time when it moves so slow
Sweat beats down your forehead and your spine begins to tingle
Butterflies within you beat their wings
And the energy reflects in a rippling effect
As people all around you start to sing
I stop and think of those we’ve loved and lost along the way
I give thanks and celebrate the fact we’re here today
Come join me in the moon light come join me round the fire
Take my hand and join me as we dance
Unified as one we march into the sun
Our hearts filled with revelry and romance

Shadows
Shadows come to life in the night time round here
In the alleyways and office blocks the grey concrete conceals
Drug addicts freezing to death and shady business deals
There’s folk who make their millions manipulating stock
As the common man holds out his hands for pennies breaking rocks
The only trees for miles around are in cages in the park
You can take your kids to feed the ducks but don’t walk their after dark
You live your life in fear because they watch every move you make
From a curtain twitching neighbour to surveillance by the state
In the supermarket chain there are packages galore
They trick you so you think you’re paying less when you’re buying more
You’ve got the store club credit card it’s full of special deals
They know exactly what you want because they control the way you feel
The man who ran the local shop remembers the time
Personality and loyalty were valued over price
But there’s no time for such sentiments in the modern age
Community is dead and we’ve a city for a grave
Shadows come to life in the night time round here
In the high street shopping centre where the advertisements glare
They’ve got everything you’ll never need and cameras everywhere
Outside in the traffic jams you can hardly breathe
Or see the sky that is the limit for what you could achieve
There is no sense of community no sense of pride
You would love to spend time with your family but you need the overtime
The endless competition has your head spinning around
If you carry on like this you’ll wind up six feet under ground
In the high rise tower blocks graffiti on the wall
Spells out ‘never have I been so high yet felt so very small’
Mum’s down at the bingo and Dad’s out on the piss
Blocking out the sad reality of living life like this
They would rather have us live in concrete caskets in the sky
Always wanting more than those next door and never asking why
We are forced to keep the cogs of industry well oiled and clean
And to never be a spanner in the works of the machine
Consume, obey and die
Worship the barcode in the sky
It’s been days since I’ve seen sunlight surely something must be done
I’d advocate armed struggle but I’m terrified of guns
Because life in the big city where you have to watch your
Makes us so afraid and paranoid for fear of an attack
The kids all carry switchblades and the cops have taser guns
Terrorising neighbourhoods some for employment some for fun
This is a plea for peace through revolutionary sound
The city lights will shine their brightest on the day we burn them down
